The Core Strategy is an important element of the Local Development Framework (LDF) and sets the vision and objectives for the town to the year 2026.

The Council is inviting comments on the preparation of an addendum to the Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report for the Core Strategy.
The revised Scoping Report is being consulted on from the 9th August until the 10th September 2010.
The Addendum identifies revisions to the Sustainability Appraisal to take account of the policy changes made since the 'Preferred Options Report' and associated Sustainability Appraisal in 2006.
The next stage in the LDF process will be the publication of a document for public consultation in early 2011.

Core Strategy: Issues and Alternatives Paper
The consultation on the discussion paper on the issues and alternatives for the Core Strategy ended on July 4 2005. This was the first formal stage of the consultation process. The results of this consultation can be found in our consultation section.
Core Strategy: Preferred Options Consultation
The Council consulted on the Core Strategy: Preferred Options Report from 5 January - 16 February 2007. The report presented the spatial vision and objectives for the future growth and development of the Borough until 2026. It lists all the options considered for achieving that vision and presents the Council's preferred options for managing change and development in the Borough.
Consultation on the Preferred Options Report was carried out via our planning consultation website.
Consultation on the Core Strategy: Spatial Development Options
The Council has prepared 4 spatial development options for public consultation. The options present different methods by which the Council can meet its South East Plan housing target of 4,800 new homes up to 2026. Each option has its associated pattern of housing development, which results in a certain level of development being delivered in each neighbourhood.
15 Consultation events were held across the town during November and December 2009. Every resident in the town was invited to attend and discuss the options with officers. The consultation closed on 25th January 2010.
