We all use water for drinking, washing, gardening and many other things.
We encourage all residents to help reduce the amount of water they use throughout the year – not just in the summer.
Here are some tips to help you save water at home:
Saving Water in the Bathroom
Turn the tap off when brushing your teeth.
Have a shower - it uses less water than a bath.
Install a water-saving devise in your toilet cistern e.g. a ‘Hippo bag’
Saving Water in the Garden
Use bark to cover your soil – it helps to stop water loss from the soil.
Water your plants in the cooler part of the day – less water will be evaporated.
Choose plants that can survive in dryer conditions.
Install a water butt.
Use a bucket when washing your car – it uses less water than a hosepipe.
If using a hosepipe to wash your car, turn it off when not needed.
Saving Water in the Kitchen
Use a bowl for your washing up – it uses less water than a dishwasher.
If using a dishwasher, make sure you only use it for a full load.
