Consumer electronics are expected to account for nearly half of all domestic energy use by 2020. If you switch off your gadgets and chargers when you are not using them, you can cut your carbon footprint.

MTV has launched the i-Trod online calculator as part of Switch, its Global Climate Change Campaign.

The calculator provides a carbon footprint for each user based on their daily activities and habits - from gaming to mobile phone usage and gives useful suggestions on how to shrink it. Try it out on the MTV website.

Emissions from left-idle entertainment consoles and TVs contribute around three million tonnes of CO2 a year, according to estimates.
