Find out about the predicted impacts of climate change in Eastbourne.
Climate Change Predictions
The UK has some of the best climate change research facilities in the world and can help us to see what our future climate might look like.
Climate change predictions suggest that, on average, we will experience wetter winters and drier summers in the future.
If, as predicted, severe storms become more frequent, the risk of flooding will increase.
You can view online maps of projected temperature and rainfall changes around the UK on the UK Climate Impacts Programme website using the link from this page.
You can also see the global picture by looking at reports produced by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change using the link from this page.
What Our Council is Doing
The council and its partners are committed to ensure Eastbourne adequately adapts to a changing climate which is why it is a central theme to the CEPE Environment Strategy. The first step is to carry out a comprehensive risk assessment and part of this assessment is to understand what a future climate in Eastbourne might look like.
To assist this, the council has commissioned research by AECOM to look in detail at the different scenarios within the Government’s UK Climate Projects database. You can download a copy of the findings below.
The final risk assessment will be available later this year.
