Find out what Eastbourne Borough Council is doing about climate change.
Eastbourne Environment Strategy
Our environment is the fabric that makes Eastbourne the unique place that it is. Its coast, countryside, parks and heritage provide us with the distinctive character that we all enjoy and treasure.
As Eastbourne moves with the times and responds to the pressures of growth and climate change the need for a co-ordinated, forward thinking and joined up sustainable approach to our environment has never been more pressing.
In response to this the Council together with the Community Environment Partnership for Eastbourne has developed an Environment Strategy, which is currently out for consultation until 10 June 2010.
The Environment Strategy has identified the following seven themes for collective action:
-
Creating a low carbon town
-
Reducing and managing our waste responsibly
-
Protecting our green spaces and biodiversity
-
Ensuring the quality of the air we breathe
-
Adapting a warmer world
-
Ensuring we use water sensibly
-
Protecting our marine and historic environment
In creating a low carbon town our vision is to reduce our carbon emissions by 35 per cent by 2020 and 80 per cent by 2050.
