Find out what to do if you have lost your dog or found someone else's in Eastbourne, and information about re-homing dogs.
Lost and Found Dogs
During office hours, stray dogs are held in kennels at the council's offices in Grove Road. If they are not collected, they are transferred to a private boarding kennels.
Between 5pm and 10pm, our contractor will pick up stray dogs and retain them in their kennels for seven days.
If they are collected by the owner, a fee is charged for collection and kennelling.
At any other time, any person finding a stray dog should contact Wealden and Eastbourne Lifeline on 01323 410051, who will inform our Dog Welfare Officer. We are not obliged to pick up stray dogs out of office hours, however they can be taken to a reception point which is in, or in the vicinity of Eastbourne.
Current fees for recovery of stray dogs are shown in our Fees and Charges list, which you can download in PDF format below.
We have provided links from this page to a number of websites which have lists of lost and found dogs with the aim of reuniting them with their owners.
Re-homing
Our Dog Welfare Officer and kennels go to great lengths to ensure that any stray dogs not reclaimed by their owner after seven days are re-homed to avoid the need of putting them down.
In the last ten years only nine dogs have had to be put down, all of which were not suitable for re-homing due to either ill-health or their temperament.
In this section you can find a list of dogs currently needing new homes from Eastbourne and Wealden councils:
