Local Dog Control Orders - Beach and Seafront
Eastbourne has local Dog Control Orders to promote responsible dog ownership.
Any person who commits an offence is liable to prosecution or a fixed penalty fine of £75.
There are exemptions for registered blind people with guide dogs.
You can download this advice in PDF format below, or use our online form to order a printed colour leaflet.
Dogs on Leads – Summer Only
1st May to 30th September
Dogs must be held on leads throughout the entire seafront, on the promenades from Holywell to Langney Point.
However, dogs need not be on leads on the Western and Middle Parades, as long as no inconvenience is caused to anyone else.
Dogs Ban – Summer Only
1st May to 30th September
Dogs are banned from the beach between the Pier and the Wish Tower.
Poop Scoop – All Year Round
The entire beach (open to dogs), promenades and surrounds are Poop Scoop areas.
You must remove any mess caused by a dog under your control.
Dog mess can be deposited in the special red bins provided or taken home and placed in the dustbin if double bagged.
The new Dog Control Orders in Eastbourne came into effect from Monday 14 April 2008.
These Dog Control Orders only apply in Eastbourne. Contact your local district or city council if you are outside Eastbourne.
General information about Dog Control Orders and an advice leaflet - How to Be a Responsible Dog Owner is available online from the government Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
