Local Dog Control Orders - Help and Advice

Cllr Bannister and The Dog Warden with three dogs
Eastbourne has local Dog Control Orders to promote responsible dog ownership, covering cleaning up dog mess, holding dogs on leads and areas where dogs are banned.

The new Dog Control Orders in Eastbourne came into effect from Monday 14 April 2008, replacing previous local byelaws.

The Orders are explained in this section. On this page you can find helpful hints and further information.

Helpful Hints

Some helpful hints on responsible dog ownership:

  • Poop Scoops can be purchased from most pet shops or any plastic bag can be used
  • Please remember to keep your dog on a lead along all roads to prevent accidents
  • All dogs must wear identity discs or other suitable markings to assist in reuniting stray dogs with their owners
  • Please remember that not everyone enjoys a dog’s company, so when exercising your dog be thoughtful of others
  • When walking on the Downs and farmland take care to keep your dog away from farm animals
