Eastbourne has local Dog Control Orders to ensure responsible dog ownership and protect the town's environment.

Any person who commits an offence is liable to prosecution or a fixed penalty fine of £75.

The Dog Control Orders cover:

  • poop scoop requirements

  • where and when dogs must be on leads

  • areas where dogs are banned

We offer advice and assistance to dog owners to help them abide by these laws, but if education does not work we can and will prosecute in the Magistrates Court. You can download our Pollution Enforcement Policy in PDF format below.

Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act

The Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 has replaced previous local dog byelaws and the old Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996 with powers for local councils to make Dog Control Orders.

The Dog Control Orders in Eastbourne came into effect from Monday 14 April 2008.
