A Guide to Responsible Dog Ownership
Our Dog Control Orders are explained in this section or you can download the advice as a leaflet below, Local Dog Control Orders - A Guide to Responsible Dog Ownership.
Please help us publicise our Dog Control Orders to local residents and visitors - free printed copies of the colour leaflet can be ordered using our online form. Organisations in Eastbourne can order up to 150 free copies.
We offer advice and assistance to dog owners to help them abide by these laws, but if education does not work we can and will prosecute in the Magistrates Court - see our Pollution Enforcement Policy, available to download below in PDF format.
Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act
The Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 has replaced previous local dog byelaws and the old Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996 with new powers for local councils to make Dog Control Orders.
The new Dog Control Orders in Eastbourne came into effect from Monday 14 April 2008.
General information about Dog Control Orders and an advice leaflet - How to Be a Responsible Dog Owner is available online from the government Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
