Advice on how to protect your pets from the noise of fireworks at celebrations such as Bonfire Night and New Year.
Remember that pets are frightened of the noise and lights from fireworks - always keep them indoors to avoid distress or injury.
This includes bringing in pets that are normally kept outside, such as rabbits or guinea pigs.
Fireworks - Keep the Noise Down
The RSPCA Fireworks - Keep the Noise Down campaign encourages the use of lower noise level fireworks - find out more on their website.
The campaign encourages the public to visit organised displays rather purchasing their own fireworks and where absolutely necessary, to only purchase lower noise level fireworks. It also highlights to firework manufacturers that the public want lower noise fireworks.
Care Tips for Dogs
The RSPCA also has special pet care tips for when fireworks are around. For dogs, they recommend:
Exercise your dog during the day
Never walk your dog while fireworks are being let off
As with cats, keep your dog indoors, close the curtains and play music or turn on the television to drown out the noise
Let your dog hide if it wants to take refuge under furniture or in a corner
Make sure your dog is wearing a collar and tag and is microchipped in case it bolts and becomes lost
