Get tips for kids about dogs from Polar, a German Shepherd that the council's Dog Welfare Officer rescued in 2007.
Hello, I am Polar. Here are my top tips:
-
Do not run away from a dog as he will chase you - stand very still and do not wave your arms or scream
-
Do not stroke a dog unless you have asked his owner first, some dogs are frightened of children
-
When you stroke a dog do not put your hand over his head - it is frightening. Always go under the mouth and to the side
-
Do not try to take a ball away from a dog you do not know - he may not like it and grumble
-
Do not tease a dog - they do not understand
