Polar's Tips about Dogs

[ Zoom ]
Hello, I am Polar, a German Shepherd dog rescued by the council's Dog Welfare Officer, and I have got some top tips for you
Hello, I am Polar

Get tips for kids about dogs from Polar, a German Shepherd that the council's Dog Welfare Officer rescued in 2007.

Hello, I am Polar. Here are my top tips:

  • Do not run away from a dog as he will chase you - stand very still and do not wave your arms or scream

  • Do not stroke a dog unless you have asked his owner first, some dogs are frightened of children

  • When you stroke a dog do not put your hand over his head - it is frightening. Always go under the mouth and to the side

  • Do not try to take a ball away from a dog you do not know - he may not like it and grumble

  • Do not tease a dog - they do not understand

To find out more, go to the page How to Keep Safe Around Dogs. You can also check out more facts, games and top tips from my doggy friends on other websites using the links I have chosen for you.

Below you can find out the story of how I became the council's top dog and print out a colourful bookmark with my photo on to tell your friends about my top tips.
