Bag It, Bin It - Clear Up After Your Dog
Bag It, Bin It poop scoop poster produced by the Dogs Trust

Clear up after your dog and keep your local community clean - Bag it and Bin it.

Dog mess is unfortunately an unpleasant aspect of dog ownership. It is every owner’s duty to clean up after their dog – there are no excuses for leaving it behind.

National Poop Scoop Week

National Poop Scoop Week is a Dogs Trust initiative each year to remind all dog owners to be responsible. Last year the week ran from 26 July to 1 August 2010.

You can download a poster and an advice leaflet from the Dogs Trust in PDF format below.

Top Tips from the Dogs Trust

  • Always carry a means to clear up after your dog, whether this is a simple plastic bag or a ‘poop scoop’ device.

  • If you have a garden, train your dog to go there before you leave home – this way you can bag it and bin it straight away.

  • Don’t rely on the rain to wash it away – this is just a lazy excuse to not pick it up!

  • Respect the council's rules on dog free areas (go to Local Dog Control Orders for details). Keep your dog away from children’s play areas and sports pitches if signposted and use dog waste bins if they have been provided.

  • Never let your dog out alone to toilet.

  • Politely encourage guilty owners you meet to do their duty. You do not need to be rude, simply offer them one of your poo bags. Embarrassment over their unacceptable behaviour gets better results and is safer than abuse.

  • Remember to always wash your hands after your walk.

  • Get your dog wormed regularly. Your vet will be able to advise you on the products available and how often your dog needs treating.
