Design Competition

Eastbourne Borough Council launched a Bag for Life design competition in early 2009, inviting budding illustrators and artists to come up with an iconic design that would feature on the resort's first official Bag for Life.

With an increasing number of consumers ditching plastic carrier bags and using environmentally friendly, reusable bags, the resort wants to use the bags to promote the resort around the World.

Nearly 100 entries were received with designs capturing all aspects of Eastbourne, from the seaside setting to the scenic South Downs.

Winning Designs!

The competition was so tough that two designs were chosen to be printed onto Bags for Life. Congratulations to Joanna Milton and Debbie Aldridge for their fantastic designs!

Shoppers can choose from a contemporary, colourful Eastbourne Life design or opt for an iconic blue outline illustration featuring the Bandstand and lighthouse.

The Eastbourne Life design encompasses many aspects of Eastbourne as a vibrant seaside town, including the Pier, beach huts, children and Airbourne and was designed by Joanna Milton from Buckinghamshire who visits the town every year.

Debbie Aldridge, from Saltdean, put together the blue design and chose to pick out iconic landmarks in Eastbourne bringing together the Bandstand, lighthouse and boat representing the resort’s growing Sovereign Harbour Marina.

Both designs can be bought from the Tourist Information Centre or ordered online from Visit Eastbourne for just £1.99 each!
