Released by the Lawn Tennis Association 10 May:
Former world number one and 2009 AEGON International champion Caroline Wozniacki is set for a return to Eastbourne after confirming her entry into next month’s tournament at Devonshire Park.
Wozniacki was victorious in the tournament three years ago when she defeated France’s Virginie Razzano 7-6(5), 7-5. The Danish star, who is currently ranked at No.6 in the world rankings, is one of a host of top ranked players from the women’s WTA Tour to accept a place in the tournament, which will take place from 16-23 June.
The news of Wozniacki’s involvement follows hot on the heels of Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, reigning AEGON International champion Marion Bartoli and 2008 French Open champion Ana Ivanovic announcing their participation.
Polish world No.3 Agnieszka Radwanska and world No.10 Vera Zvonareva from Russia are the other headline players in a world class field in Eastbourne.
In the men’s draw, France’s Richard Gasquet is the highest ranked player in the draw while Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis, who confirmed his entry last month, and Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber will also be in action.
Australian teenager Bernard Tomic, who reached the quarter-finals at The Championships, Wimbledon, last year has also signed up for the week-long tournament.
Tournament director Gavin Fletcher said: “The standard at the AEGON International has always been very high and this year will be no different.
“Both draws look really strong and I’m sure they will deliver some world class tennis which the Eastbourne public can enjoy.”
Italy’s Andreas Seppi won the men’s tournament in 2011, while world No.7 Bartoli scooped the women’s title in a draw which featured 13 of the world's top 20 female players.
A bumper crowd is expected again at Devonshire Park this year – particularly on the opening day of the tournament, after it was announced that entry to the grounds will be free. Centre court and court one will also have unreserved seating making it the ideal time to see great tennis served daily.
Sunday March 17 will feature a host of legends competing in a Father’s Day tussle with former British No.1 Greg Rusedski and Mark Philippoussis already confirmed for the line-up.
