New Conferences to Bring £1m to Eastbourne

4 May, 2012

Two new major conference bookings for Eastbourne’s Devonshire Park Centre are set to boost the town’s economy by nearly £1 million.

Eastbourne Conference Bureau has just won two significant bookings for dates over the next four years, which will bring more than 1,100 delegates into town.

The Royal British Legion is returning with 800 delegates for a three day conference in 2016 in Eastbourne, they were last here in 2009.

While the British Mass Spectrometry Society (BMSS) will be visiting the town for the first time in 2013, bringing a further 300 delegates into the south coast resort for two days.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Cllr Neil Stanley said “We are very pleased to secure these two big conferences for Eastbourne. We want our town to become recognised as a premier business destination and securing two important events such as these can only boost the town.”

The new bookings come at a busy time for Eastbourne Conference Bureau with the team getting ready to welcome more than 1,000 dancers from around the world for an international dance competition.

The International Dance Federation (IDF) 10th World Dance Championships in Modern Dance Sport are taking place at the town’s Devonshire Park Centre, from 24 – 27 May and include 25 dance teams from countries including Spain, Italy, India, Hungary, Lithuania and Poland.

An Eastbourne Borough Council spokesperson said “We are extremely pleased to secure these new conferences for Eastbourne and continue to attract big names to use the Devonshire Park Centre for their events. We already have a packed calendar of conferences taking place in Eastbourne and these new bookings come as a further boost to the local economy.”

Located in the UK’s sunniest place and set in the heart of the hotel district and cultural quarter, the Devonshire Park Centre offers conference facilities for up to 1,700 delegates and is ideally positioned for business use during the day and close to shopping areas, entertainment and time out for delegates after hours.

And with one of the highest number of bedspaces in the south east, Eastbourne offers a wide range of accommodation including large hotels, friendly guesthouses and modern self-catering options catering for all price brackets and tastes, and within easy walking distance of the Devonshire Park Centre.

Offering an Accommodation Booking Service for conference organisers, rooms are directly allocated for each event meaning delegates are presented with an affordable choice of accommodation, often making significant savings on the rack rate.
