Sunday Night on the Proms and 1812 Firework concerts kick off this week with free concerts at Bandstand on the Beach throughout June.
Perfect timing for the Jubilee weekend celebrations, Battle Town Band launch the Sunday night season on 3 June with an evening of classic British prom hits. A patriotic crescendo at the end of the evening is guaranteed with rousing performances of Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia, complete with an audience sing-a-long and flag waving.
On Wednesday 5 June, 1812 Nights begin with a bang as an evening of classical music by Uckfield Concert Brass ends triumphantly with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, accompanied by a spectacular firework display from the beach.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Neil Stanley said “This is our treat for music fans with free entry while the temporary works continue at the Bandstand. This is the perfect opportunity to enjoy a free concert on the beach and get a taste of what a great programme we have on offer when the Bandstand reopens in July.”
Sunday afternoon’s free concerts also continue this week with Harvey’s Brass (Ensemble) on 3 June bringing an afternoon of popular classics, film scores and family favourites.
All concerts throughout June, with the exception of tribute nights, will be free of charge from a temporary staging area on the beach, next to the Bandstand.
The staging area includes deckchair seating, a wheelchair viewing area and a licensed bar. For evening concerts, the seating area opens at 7pm with the performance starting at 8pm. Afternoon concerts open at 2pm with performances from 3pm.
The Bandstand programme increases in July with the addition of Thursday’s Big Band nights, Saturday night Rock n Roll tributes, Gilbert & Sullivan Evenings on Mondays and the Kids Summertime Special on Tuesdays.
Eastbourne Bandstand is due to reopen in July, following essential maintenance work on the Bandstand structure.
