25 July

Wednesday 1st August will see the launch of Eastbourne’s weekly street market at the ‘Pier’ end of Terminus Road.

The market will start at 9.30 in the morning with over 27 stall holders selling local produce including, cheeses, cakes, fruit and vegetables, fish and meat, pies and pastries; as well as jewellery, crafts, home ware, children’s toys, garments, gifts and books.

The especially designed bright yellow and white striped stalls provided by the EDEAL Enterprise Agency and Eastbourne Council will ensure an attractive and colourful display for Eastbourne.

The market will run every Wednesday at the Pier end of Terminus Road which will be closed to traffic on the day, with buses able to pick up and drop off along the seafront and Devonshire Place on Market days.

Mark McFadden, Eastbourne Chamber of Commerce President said “The street market is an initiative for local businesses organised by local business people and widely supported by the community in Eastbourne.  To celebrate Eastbourne’s first ever Market Day on Wednesday 1st August there will be Sunshine! plus a Grand Opening with lots of street entertainment on hand throughout the day!”

Lucy Newport, Eastbourne Town Team Leader said “The Town Team is very excited to see the launch of this new street market for the town centre. The initiative is exactly the sort of venture recommended by Mary Portas in the Portas Review so it is wonderful to see Eastbourne at the forefront of these new and innovative ideas to reinvigorate our town centre”

Local businesses who wish to participate in the street market should contact Tim Tradewell at The Secret Garden, Tel: 01323 640931.
