Entries for the second annual Sovereign Harbour sponsored walk are now open with walkers and their dogs being invited to register for the 5km walk that takes in Eastbourne’s contemporary harbour development.
Following a successful inaugural event in 2011 that raised over £3,500 for Help For Heroes, this year’s walk, organised by the Rotary Club of Sovereign Harbour, will be hoping to raise a minimum of £5,000 for Guide Dogs for the Blind.
The walk will take place at midday on Sunday 22 April and follow a 5km route around the Waterfront and south harbour with walkers returning just in time for a well deserved lunch!
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Cllr Neil Stanley said “It is fantastic news that the Sovereign Harbour Walk is returning again in 2012 promising a gentle walk for entrants and a great way to raise money at the same time. The harbour is a brilliant place for enjoying time outdoors with lovely views across to sea with colourful yachts lining the waters so I’d encourage as many people as possible to sign up for the walk and what promises to be a wonderful community event.”
This year the event is being opened up to walkers and their dogs with many walkers being accompanied by guide dogs.
Eastbourne Borough Council’s Dog Welfare Officer Sue Criddle and her dog Polar have already registered to take part and she will be joined by the Worshipful Mayor of Eastbourne Cllr Carolyn Heaps and Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd.
Registration costs £5 and can be completed online or by downloading postal registration forms from the official website with walkers encouraged to raise further sponsorship towards Guide Dogs for the Blind.
