Service Announcement – Effect of Possible Snow on Council Services

Services provided by Eastbourne Borough Council may be affected by snow. Any changes to our services will be announced here, on our website home page, and on Facebook and Twitter

08 February 2012

Snow on Saturday and freezing conditions over the weekend means we are reviewing Council services today. Temperature at a maximum of 1o today but ice could cause hazardous conditions according to the BBC.

Council Services

Cemeteries and Crematorium

Ocklynge Cemetery will only be open for pedestrian access due to the weather conditions, all other services are as usual.

Waste Collections

Recycling, garden waste and refuse collections are running as normal today, with some delays because of ice on frozen footpaths. Please be patient as the teams work to clear paths and complete rounds.

Additional paper, cans, glass, textiles, plastics bottles and household batteries can also be taken to one of Eastbourne’s 20+ “bring sites”.

Roads and Highways

Ice and snow may have caused hazardous conditions on East Sussex roads. Roads are maintained by East Sussex County Council (ESCC), not Eastbourne Borough Council.

School Closures

East Sussex County Council (ESCC) manage state schools in Eastbourne. You can find a list of schools that are closed due to snow on their website.

You can also sign up to receive closure alerts

Local radio stations including Heart FM usually announce school closures during affected periods.
