See Lucy Phillips’ Urban Landscapes in Towner’s Café Projects

September 7th, 2011.

East Sussex based Lucy Phillips is the latest artist to showcase her work in Towner’s second floor café as the award-winning art museum unveils its autumn Café Projects exhibition.

The successful Café Projects is dedicated to displaying the work of artists from the region and this September, visitors to the gallery have the chance to browse and buy works by Lucy Phillips who lives and works in Hastings.

This is the second opportunity for Towner visitors to see Lucy’s works after her photographs made the final cut in this year’s East Sussex Open, and continues Lucy’s time in the spotlight regionally after having her images shown during the Brighton Photo Fringe 2010 and her work being the subject of a solo show at the De La Warr Pavilion earlier this year.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Cllr Neil Stanley said “We are very pleased to continue the Café Projects display this autumn and excited to have another opportunity to display Lucy’s unusual, thought provoking photographs. Not only does Towner stage some fantastic exhibitions by national and international artists each year but it also offers a great platform for regional artists to showcase their work. I’d encourage every Towner visitor to stop off at the café during their visit and take a look at Lucy’s images.”

Lucy’s photographs on display in Café Projects form part of an ongoing series called Nothing is the Same. Her ideas evolve with the work, but essentially this project is a series of images documenting aspects of the urban landscapes of the south coast, presented as records of chance encounters, temporary configurations and unusual perspectives.

The south coast is not the only place where Lucy’s work has proved a hit either, with her work also being exhibited at the Association of Photographers Gallery in London.

Visitors who like what they see in the Towner Café also have the chance to buy their own Lucy Phillips original and should enquire at the Towner Welcome Desk. Lucy’s work is on display until 2 October.
