Budding sleuths are being invited to solve a brand new crime this autumn as Eastbourne guesthouse, The Mowbray, launches its new murder mystery party evening, Donation of Death, written by local author Robert A Wood.
The latest mystery invites guests to come together and solve a series of clues during a Benefit Dinner, where the head of a local charity has already got the chop and guests are left to unearth who could be next.
Donation of Death is the second murder mystery evening produced by owners of The Mowbray, Laura and Darren Weir, who have used their previous work as criminal barristers to put together a themed evening offering visitors to Eastbourne a dinner party with a difference.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Cllr Neil Stanley said “I am very excited to hear about The Mowbray’s latest murder mystery night and can’t wait to try to solve the mystery myself! The Mowbray’s first mystery has proved very popular during the past two years with visitors coming from all over the UK to try and solve the ‘whodunnit’ style crime. With Donation of Death promising a new story and a few surprises, I’m sure it will entertain plenty of guests over the coming months, particularly during the Christmas party season.”
Hundreds of guests have already taken part in the Mowbray’s first mystery, The Duke’s Will, which was launched in January 2009. Following a successful run of murder mystery evenings and the opening of a Murder Mystery themed Treasure Trail kiosk on Eastbourne seafront this summer, Laura and Darren are excited to launch their new Cluedo style mystery.
Darren Weir said “Our new murder mystery has been designed to offer a really cost effective alternative to a normal dinner. For just £25 visitors will get a four course meal, glass of fizz and a performance to die for – we must be crazy!”
Murder at the Mowbray themed dinner evenings are the first of their kind for Eastbourne with the stories set in the present day. Guests who attend the evenings will enjoy a four course dinner party, joining budding local actors, who have been drafted in to play the murder mystery characters and make the setting as realistic as possible.
Set in the heart of Eastbourne’s cultural quarter amongst the town’s theatres and art museums Towner, the Mowbray is taking inspiration from the stage and offers visitors the chance to enjoy the town’s cultural offer while getting in on the action at the same time.
