A religious conference that has taken place in Eastbourne for the past eight years has had to close its booking earlier than ever this year as the south coast destination proves a hit with delegates during a busy season of conferences, worth an estimated £4 million to the town’s economy.
Mission Worship have been coming to the Devonshire Park Centre since 2003 and this year will fill the venue with 1,700 delegates from 25 – 27 November. The guest speakers lined up for the 2011 event have proven popular with delegates and organisers have praised Eastbourne’s facilities.
Mission Worship Conference Director Stephen Doherty said “We are very pleased to announce that our 2011 conference taking place in November has now sold out and look forward to bringing over 1,700 delegates to Eastbourne. The conference organisers are really pleased with the continued support from the Eastbourne venue over the years and the excellent amenities the town has to offer delegates.”
Events taking place over the next few months in Eastbourne will see more than 8,000 delegates coming into the town, encouraging spending in local businesses and filling local hotels and guesthouses.
Eight major conferences will take place at the Devonshire Park Centre this autumn, including Rotary 1130 who have been coming to Eastbourne for almost 30 years!
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Cllr Neil Stanley said “What a great conference season we are looking forward to in Eastbourne bringing a brilliant boost to the local economy. Our conference trade is important for bringing visitors into Eastbourne during the shoulder months and makes excellent use of the venues at Devonshire Park in between major shows.”
With the UKIP conference taking place earlier this month in Eastbourne and proving to be one of their best events ever and with a review of Devonshire Park currently taking place considering the long term future of the venue and an aspiration to develop its conference facilities, the town is keen to attract more big names over the next few years.
