Eastbourne’s award-winning art museum Towner is offering visitors the chance to hear from experts and take part in panel discussions this autumn in a special one day event looking at Eric Ravilious’ unique place in early 20th century British art.
Eric Ravilious: New Findings and Further Reflections will take place on Saturday 12 November and follows on from Towner’s acclaimed 2010 summer exhibition, Familiar Visions.
The Towner Symposium will offer fans of Ravilious, whose work features in the Towner Collection, an unrivalled opportunity to explore his work and debate new research findings. The day will be facilitated by Dr Alan Powers, whose work has been crucial to today’s understanding of Ravilious’ contribution to modern British art.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Cllr Neil Stanley said “The Towner Symposium offers a brilliant chance to really learn more about the work of Ravilious with the opportunity to hear from and question experts who have studied the artist in depth. Last summer’s Ravilious exhibition was hugely popular, drawing thousands of visitors keen to view works by this important artist who has become synonymous with Towner, and this autumn’s event will offer enthusiasts the chance to go one step further and hear the very latest research findings.”
Those attending the Symposium will hear from Andy Friend, Jeremy Greenwood, Christopher Whittick and Peyton Skipwith and also have the opportunity to browse a special one day exhibition of Ravilious books and printed works and a behind the scenes tour of Towner’s Collection Store.
The event takes place from 10am – 4.30pm and includes lunch, refreshments and a complimentary drink in the café/bar. Tickets are on sale now from Towner on 01323 434670 for £40 per person or just £30 for Towner members.
