Families are being invited to Eastbourne’s award-winning art museum Towner this weekend for a free drop-in event to make weird and wonderful creations inspired by the Compulsive, Obsessive, Repetitive exhibition.
This Sunday, 11 September, children are invited to join artist Karen Taylor to have a go at using simple, repetitive actions to create their own sculptures, based on those on display in Compulsive, Obsessive, Repetitive.
The exhibition, on at Towner until 18 September, is a group show of sculptors who obsessively use small scale repetitive processes to create large scale installations. The six installations on display are made from unusual materials including 1,100 salmon skin tiles, 9,375 paper rolls and over a quarter of a million sugar cubes!
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Cllr Neil Stanley said “This weekend’s event promises to be a great way for families to follow exactly the same processes used by the Compulsive, Obsessive, Repetitive artists and come up with their own creations.
“The exhibition shows that just about anything can be used when it comes to art and creating unusual sculptures that really push the boundaries, and I hope that those attending on Sunday will really push their creativity to the limits and I can’t wait to see what they come up with!”
The drop-in event takes place from 11am – 3pm on Sunday and visitors can pop in and use the free arts materials available in The Art Box.
Visitors will also be able to browse Towner’s other current exhibitions during the day, including John Piper in Kent & Sussex and The Art of Giving, while Towner Café offers the ideal place to retreat for lunch and refreshments.
