Fans of the UK’s sunniest place have come up with a definitive A to Z of reasons to visit Eastbourne – covering everything from Airbourne International Airshow to Harry Potter’s Quidditch World Cup, which was filmed at Beachy Head.
More than 90 VisitEastbourne fans shared over 630 suggestions of reasons to visit the south coast destination via its facebook page with a new letter of the alphabet posted each day.
The VisitEastbourne team have whittled the hundreds of suggestions down to just 26 with their overall favourite suggestion, ‘Sunshine, sea and smiles’ submitted by Joanne Bradshaw, winning an overnight stay for two in a four poster room with dinner in their AA rosette Conservatory Restaurant at Eastbourne’s Langham Hotel.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Neil Stanley said “We were absolutely overwhelmed with the response to our A to Z Challenge and it was really difficult to make a final decision for each letter and come up with just 26 reasons! As one of our final suggestion states, there are zillions of reasons to visit Eastbourne, and the brilliant response we received certainly confirmed that. It was fascinating to watch the challenge each day and the really varied reasons that were put forward, with one or two getting really competitive as well as making us chuckle! We can’t wait to come up with some more contests to really get our visitors and fans talking!”
The challenge was intended to drive traffic and raise the profile of the VisitEastbourne facebook page. The number of new fans increased by 300% over the course of the challenge compared to the previous month, with feedback on wall posts up by 381%.
The final A to Z contains a wide range of reasons for visiting Eastbourne, highlighting the open air concerts at the Bandstand, South Downs National Park, musicals at Eastbourne Theatres, and much more!
With so many reasons to choose from, VisitEastbourne have also decided to dedicate two special awards to Graham Huntley and Carters Fish & Chip Shop who managed to come up with particularly witty posts every day during the challenge and they will receive a copy of the winning Great Eastbourne Railway Competition poster.
