Redoubt Fortress Joins Christmas Open Houses

November 29, 2011

Eastbourne’s Napoleonic Fortress is joining more than 40 artists and makers to take part in the Christmas Open Houses Weekends taking place from 3-4 December.

For Christmas gifts with a difference, visitors will be able to browse and buy unique pieces around Eastbourne for the second weekend in a row as artists open up their homes to showcase their work in the annual Christmas Open Houses.

This year the Redoubt Fortress is open for the event too offering the chance for visitors to do a spot of Christmas shopping at this unique historic venue and enjoy a free mince pie at the same time!

The Redoubt will host a range of exhibitors over this weekend, including fine artists whose work shows landscapes, seascapes, still life, and wildlife, a jewellery maker who makes handcrafted jewellery in silver, copper and bronze, and the Eastbourne Local History Society selling a selection of local history books.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Cllr Neil Stanley said “We are really pleased that the Redoubt is joining in with the festive celebrations in Eastbourne this year and offering a unique venue to showcase unique artwork by the wealth of talented artists and makers who live and work in the town. It’s a great chance for Christmas shoppers to find that extra special gift and support local artists at the same time.”

Visitors to the Redoubt this weekend will also be able to purchase handmade festive wreaths from natural materials, or even have a go at making their own, with prices starting from £8.75.

Free refreshments including mince pies will be available to keep shoppers warmed up as they browse the range of stalls at the fortress. The Redoubt’s well stocked Gift and Book shop will also be open offering a range of products and special Christmas lines.

2011 is the fourth year of the Christmas Open Houses event in Eastbourne and offers a real Christmas shoppers heaven with many artists creating handcrafted gifts especially for the festive season.
