More than 40 Tweeps Tweetup at VisitEastbourne & ConferenceEB Event

November 30, 2011

More than 40 local businesses and individuals attended the first VisitEastbourne tweetup last Thursday held in partnership with Eastbourne Conference Bureau to bring together local twitter users in an informal networking evening.

The free drop-in event took place at the Congress Suite and offered Eastbourne-based tweeters the chance to put faces to the people behind the tweets from the town’s growing twitter community.

Eastbourne Conference Bureau who tweet as @ConferenceEB used the tweetup to raise awareness of the free-venue finding service they offer, while VisitEastbourne asked those that attended to share their top twitter tips, which have been published on the new VisitEastbourne blog.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Cllr Neil Stanley said “We were delighted to host our first tweetup and very pleased with the number of people who attended. Not only did we have local businesses but we also had individuals come along too, including a couple of tweeters who have just moved to Eastbourne. The feedback we’ve received has been excellent and we’re looking forward to organising another tweetup in the new year!”

EastbourneCan, a new group of Eastbourne enthusiasts who want to make the best of Eastbourne, used the tweetup to ask people to jot down the one thing they would like to see in the town. All suggestions were stuck onto a board for others to view and they will be posting the results on their blog.

Twitter was buzzing with tweets about the tweetup on Thursday evening full of positive feedback for VisitEastbourne, the Conference Bureau and Convex Leisure who provided refreshments and canapés for the event.
