Eastbourne’s award-winning art gallery Towner is getting ready to celebrate the launch of its new limited edition artist-designed membership card this Friday in a special evening event including a Gin Performance by artist Peter Liversidge.
From 7-9pm this Friday 13 May, fans and supporters of Towner are invited to join host David Dimbleby for the launch of its new membership card created by Peter and to celebrate the continued philanthropy associated with the gallery.
Towner supporters will have an exciting opportunity to take part in Peter’s Gin Proposal, a performance installation in which he hand engraves 100 glasses, which will be given away free with a Hendricks gin and tonic from a bespoke gin stand, designed by Peter and created by the Towner technicians. The performance takes place to music and lasts the duration of the gin; once the bottles and glasses are empty, the performance is over!
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Cllr Neil Stanley said “We are extremely pleased to be joined by Peter for this fantastic celebration on Friday evening and to unveil the wonderful limited edition membership cards that Peter has designed. The evening will be made even more special by the novel Gin Performance that Towner will host, as well as the fact that we will be welcoming back long term Towner supporter David Dimbleby.
“Friday evening showcases the role of philanthropy in developing Towner’s Collection and the important contribution that Towner’s supporters provide by joining the membership scheme. By issuing a limited edition membership card, Towner offers the opportunity for its supporters to start their very own art collection, as the membership card together with a personal copy of the artist’s proposal is in itself a work of art.”
Peter will give a short talk on his proposals for Towner, including his design for the new limited edition collectable artwork issued to all Towner members. Visitors will be able to sign up to become a member on the night and take a look at the new collection display The Art Of Giving, which explores how gifts of artwork have shaped the Towner Collection.
Three paintings from Peter’s ‘Montana Plains’ series, which are part of the Towner Collection, will be on display for one evening only with a wooden fence installation designed to accompany the paintings.
Broadcaster and Towner supporter David Dimbleby will host the evening, continuing his long running association with the gallery after officially opening the state of the art Towner in 2009.
Those interested in attending the free membership card launch on Friday should call Towner on 01323 434670 to book their place and on the evening will be able to find out about Towner membership packages available.
