Peter Bayless Heads Fiesta Food Theatre

Peter Bayless on Eastbourne Beach

23 May 2011

Masterchef winner Peter Bayless is heading up the kitchen at Eastbourne Fiesta with local restaurants joining the live cookery demonstrations in Food Theatre at the town’s new free event this weekend.

From 28-29 May the town welcomes Eastbourne Fiesta, a brand new event bringing together a fusion of cultures from around the world on the seafront’s Western Lawns.

2006 Masterchef winner Peter Bayless will cook live in front of visitors demonstrating a Greek dish of keftedes me kritheraki, spiced meatballs in a rich, fresh tomato sauce with rice-shaped pasta, crumbled feta and herbs, headlining the kitchen at 2.30pm on Saturday.

He will be joined over the weekend by new Eastbourne restaurant Printers Bar Brasserie whose Head Chef Jason Peter Menzies will demonstrate Hot Rocks, Thai Terre offering a taste of the orient at 11.30am Sunday, and chefs from The Langham Hotel.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Cllr Neil Stanley said “Eastbourne Fiesta is shaping up to be a real celebration of cultures from around the world. Not only do we have some mouth watering demonstrations using international cuisine, but we have live music, a mini beer festival, an Italian Market, and an outdoor zumba class! We are working closely with Eastbourne Cultural Communities Network (ECCN) to organise the event and we are very excited to stage such a bumper line up next weekend!”

Fiesta will present a mini beer festival for visitors, giving a taster for what can be found at the popular Eastbourne Beer Festival, which takes place in October. 1648 will be offering a lunchtime tasting on the Saturday, including the chance to try Beehead, winner of the CAMRA Microbrew at last year’s Beer Festival. The Real Ale Bar will contain 20 real ales altogether, 6 cider lines, wine and Pimms, and drinkers will be able to vote for Beer of the Fest and guess the mystery ale for the chance to win tickets to October’s event.

Zumba will present an energetic start to the weekend’s festivities on Saturday morning from 11am. Kayjay Zumba will present an outside master class giving visitors the chance to try out the new fitness craze, which originates from Columbia and combines Latin and Salsa dance vibes.

The Fiesta entertainment goes on into the night on the Saturday of the event too with a Barn Dance on the Western Lawns. Long Man Morris Dancers will get visitors on their feet from 6.15pm, with Rattlebone staging a barn dance from 7.15pm until 9pm, with visitors encouraged to come dressed in their best gingham with a pair of Aviator Club hospitality tickets to be awarded to the best dressed!

Other Fiesta highlights across the weekend will include a mini Pride with BourneOut taking to the stage and introducing Miss Fonda Cox Hostess and Drag Queen, transsexual magician Emma, and Ace Dancers, as well as a packed programme of live music and dancing from across the globe, including Smugg Jam, Ragati String Band, Pentacle Drummers, Bollywood Dancing, Pramila Nepalese Dance and many more!

The popular Italia in Piazza Market will return to the seafront from 29-30 May selling authentic produce from across the continent and the Jaguar South Downs Run returns on Sunday 29 May bringing a display of over 100 Jaguars and Daimlers to Eastbourne as they complete their route from Chichester.
