Mother’s Day in Eastbourne is set to coincide with the Beachy Head Countryside Centre’s celebratory weekend marking a year since the South Downs was named as the country’s newest National Park.
Taking place from Saturday 2nd – Sunday 3rd April, the Beachy Head Countryside Centre is staging a free weekend extravaganza packed with opportunities to view and explore the new South Downs National Park on Eastbourne’s doorstep.
Visitors and families are invited to visit the Centre next to Beachy Head Pub and enjoy guided bus trips around nearby East Dean and Birling Gap, enjoy dancing from Hunters Moon Morris Men, hear about local wildlife from expert Trevor Weeks, and sample local ales in a mini beer festival.
A spokesperson for Eastbourne Borough Council said “What a fantastic weekend this is shaping up to be with plenty going on to showcase what a wonderful attraction the South Downs National Park is. The weekend packed with activities is a great way for both residents and visitors to take a whistle-stop tour of the stunning landscape on our doorsteps as well as enjoy country crafts and live entertainment. Coinciding with Mother’s Day, the weekend is a brilliant opportunity for families to take in some fresh country air and celebrate our new National Park!”
The Beachy Head Countryside Centre will officially open Eastbourne as the gateway to the new South Downs National Park at 10.45am on the Saturday with the Pentacle Drummers providing the soundtrack.
There will be a packed itinerary of activities taking place throughout the weekend; from the chance for children to master the technique of old-fashioned arts and crafts, to trips on the Cuckmere Community Bus, and from finding out about countryside wildlife with East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service to enjoying the Seaford Hand Bell Ringers and Hunters Moon Morris Dancers. Countryside Centre staff will also be able to guide visitors on organised walks to explore the spectacular countryside and white chalk cliffs of Beachy Head by foot.
