Parkour and Dance Come to Towner

2 March 2011

Visitors to Eastbourne’s award-winning gallery Towner can enjoy a brand new UPG Show from Brighton-based Prodigal Theatre – The Inner City at 3pm this Saturday.

UPG was the world’s first purpose-built & tourable environment for the practice and performance of Parkour and parkour-inspired dance. This is an exclusive opportunity to see this show before it premières in Brighton and eventually Naples. Free to gallery visitors, The Inner City will kick off what promises to be a packed afternoon and evening at Towner, with Club Tokyo coming to the gallery in the evening.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure, Cllr Neil Stanley said “What a great weekend we have coming up at Towner! The Inner City promises to be a dazzling show in our fantastic gallery space and with Club Tokyo taking over the venue in the evening for our second multimedia and arts club night, Towner is really coming to life this weekend. Plus Sunday being the last chance to take a look at the Tomoaki Suzuki exhibition, I am sure Towner will prove a hit this weekend.”

The Inner City is Prodigal’s most theatrical UPG show to date, conceived as both a stand alone outdoor performance ready for touring, and as the foundation of a longer in-theatre piece.

Prodigal Theatre and Towner have an ongoing relationship, most recently working in partnership with Towner’s Outreach and Inclusion programme for Access All Areas does Mapplethorpe in 2010.

The Irish Times describe The Inner City as “…a dazzling display…. performers alternated between show-off virtuosity and the unexpected stateliness of dancers at a barre….”

Supported through the project Fringe2Fringe and presented in collaboration with Teatro Stabile di Napoli and the Napoli Teatro Festival Italia. Co commissioned by Towner, Eastbourne.
