A series of targeted workshops will be taking place in Eastbourne over the next few weeks putting the town’s cultural activity under the spotlight and reaching out to specific groups, including children and young people, sport and leisure, creative and cultural professionals, and the hospitality industry.
More than 130 people attended a large culture workshop at the Winter Garden in January looking at Eastbourne’s cultural assets and suggesting ideas for how cultural activity can be improved and brought together, launching a springboard of themes for wider consultation.
In a continued drive to further develop the understanding of Eastbourne's cultural offer, the Borough Council are now focusing on these key themes, which include children and young people, sport and leisure, creative and cultural professionals, and the hospitality industry.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure, Cllr Neil Stanley said “The Culture Workshop that took place in January proved to be a very valuable and successful way of bringing people together from across Eastbourne so that we could listen to their views and reassess our cultural offer. It also identified the need to reach out further to specific groups to ensure that the views of the whole community are heard. A series of workshops are now taking place with these specific groups, that will really allow us to build a complete picture of exactly what Eastbourne’s cultural assets are and how these can be made even better and more cohesive.”
As part of this, earlier this month discussions took place with children and young people at Charlie’s Youth Access Centre Open Day. Leader of the Council Cllr David Tutt attended the event and took part in an exercise that encouraged the group to explore ‘Eastbourne Culture’.
