Community Football Partnership

June 8, 2011

In a move designed to create greater opportunities for local people, Eastbourne Borough Council and Eastbourne Town Football Club have put the seal on a new community partnership.

With free entry to all league games for U/16s, the initiative brings immediate benefits to youngsters keen to watch Eastbourne Town in action at the Saffrons,

Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, Councillor David Tutt, said:

“Thanks to the tireless work of so many dedicated volunteers, we have a thriving football community in the town.  Every Saturday and Sunday throughout the football season, pitches are crammed full of matches being played by juniors, youth teams and adults.

“Our community partnership with Eastbourne Town Football Club provides a base on which we can build a closer working relationship in the months and years to come.  The free entry to games for U/16s is a first step and I hope other positive initiatives will follow.”

Eastbourne Town runs nearly 30 teams and recently clinched a new three year sponsorship deal with Sussex Business Times.

Club Chairman, David Jenkins, said:

“The club and council are neighbours in the town centre and we’ve always enjoyed good relations with the members and officers in the Town Hall.  It seemed like a very natural move to establish a community partnership that I hope will act as a catalyst for more good news at the Saffrons.”
