The country’s only fully operational Bandstand is continuing to be a crowd puller every Friday evening with its 2011 tribute concert season getting off to a busy start.
This Friday audiences will be taken back in time to the 1940s as Manhattan Swing perform a tribute to Frank Sinatra in the historic 1930s landmark. Visitors can look forward to performances of popular hits from the swing era including My Way, Fly Me To The Moon and Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Neil Stanley said “The Bandstand tribute season has got off to a fantastic start with tributes to the Beatles, Take That and Queen really bringing the venue to life during the milder weather we’ve been enjoying in Eastbourne. With plenty more top tribute nights still to come in 2011, plus the return of Kids Summertime Specials, Big Band Sound and Rock n Roll tribute nights coming up later this summer; Eastbourne certainly has a packed programme of seafront entertainment on offer!”
The Bandstand concerts continue during the week with 1812 Firework Nights lighting up the seafront skies every Wednesday evening. A tradition dating back more than 30 years, visitors can book now for a band concert culminating in a dazzling firework display to Tchaikovsky’s famous 1812 Overture, with the concerts taking place every Wednesday until 28 September.
Sundays present a double bill of concerts at the Bandstand with a Traditional Afternoon Concert at 3pm and Sunday Night on the Proms from 8pm, while starting this week, Big Band Night seems some of the best local big and military bands take to the stage every Thursday evening to perform renditions of hits from this memorable era.
Other highlights coming up in 2011 include the return of family favourite, Kids Summertime Specials, kicking off on the first Tuesday evening of the school holidays on 26 July with a party night promising colourful performances from High School Musical, Hannah Montana and Mamma Mia. Taking place every Tuesday during the summer holidays, families can choose from Party Nights or Glee Nights based on the hit E4 show.
The popular Friday night tribute season is being extended from Saturday 23 July with weekly rock ‘n’ roll tributes every Saturday to icons including Elvis, Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly.
And the August Bank Holiday weekend promises something extra special at Eastbourne Bandstand as one of the country’s leading folk musicians takes to the stage on Sunday 28 August for a one off performance. Music lovers can book now for Seth Lakeman Live at the Bandstand with tickets just £15 in advance or £18 on the door.
