Skaters from along the south coast are being invited to battle it out at Eastbourne Extreme next month in Beach Jam as part of the town's annual free extreme sports event.
Eastbourne's coolest event, Extreme returns to the sunny seaside resort from 16-17 July, with Loco Skates calling for pro and amateur skaters to sign up now to compete in Beach Jam for the chance to win up to £500 in prize money.
Beach Jam takes place on Sunday 17 July at Eastbourne's super fast seafront skate park, which was completely refurbished in 2010, and features a pro and amateur competition and an old school mini ramp contest with UK Skater of the Year Nick Lomax leading the line up of competitors.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Cllr Neil Stanley said "What a year 2011 is turning out to be for Eastbourne Extreme with our busiest ever line up of activities. Skaters can really get in on the action this year; from competing in Beach Jam to the chance to try out a UK exclusive as the Street Surfing S Ramp makes its first ever appearance in this country, there really is plenty to keep adrenaline-junkies busy over the weekend. With lots of extreme action to sit back and watch too, including the Zero Gravity Freestyle Trials Team, Formula Future powerboat racing and the Battle of the Bands final, it makes a fantastic weekend break for families."
Extreme is looking forward to a UK first this summer with the Street Surfing 360 degree Rampage Tour coming to the event following a successful tour across Europe. A huge S Ramp will be erected on the seafront for the weekend with the chance for visitors to watch the experts in action before being kitted out themselves for a taster skating session, described as a cross between snowboarding and surfing on the street!
There will be plenty more to keep eager Extreme fans entertained too, with the chance to have a go at kite-surfing or kite-buggying, try zorbing, or enjoy a taster sailing or windsurfing session with Spray Watersports.
For visitors who prefer to soak in the festival atmosphere, the return of the VW Bus Stop Tour will bring an authentic surf vibe to Eastbourne seafront with a colourful display of iconic VW Camper Vans lining the beach, all to the soundtrack of the Battle of the Bands final being played out on the Extreme stage.
