Grease is the One You Want at Airbourne!

Hit 70s movie Grease topped the online poll with fans of Airbourne for the film they’d most like to see at Eastbourne International Airshow and visitors can look forward to watching the story of the T-Birds and Pink Ladies for Saturday Night at the Movies this summer with the hunt on for a Danny and Sandy lookalike too!

New for 2011, Saturday Night at the Movies will take place on 13 August during Eastbourne’s four day flying spectacular with a big screen showing of Grease at 6pm from the seafront Western Lawns.

Following a successful Royal Wedding lookalike competition earlier this year, Airbourne organisers want to find the best Danny and Sandy lookalike to be crowned at the event for the chance to win Airbourne hospitality and helicopter flights. Visitors are also encouraged to come in their best Grease costumes on the evening.

Airshow fans will be treated to big screen action during the day too with the all new Airbourne TV broadcasting live streaming and exclusive interviews from four large screens along the seafront and in the town centre, providing a fully produced and interactive show of the free event.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure, Cllr Neil Stanley said “We had a brilliant response to the Saturday Night at the Movie vote, particularly through the Airbourne page on facebook and it was an overwhelming win for Grease! Our big screen broadcasts have already proved really popular in Eastbourne this year; first for the Royal Wedding and more recently for the opera Tosca, which came live from Valencia, and I hope our movie night will prove just as successful. I hope Airbourne visitors stay on into the evening to enjoy this free movie screening and join us on the Western Lawns for this family classic!”

Airbourne TV will offer visitors the chance to interact with the airshow throughout the four days, including live streaming, pilot interviews and text to screen. It will also offer businesses the opportunity to promote themselves to the huge footfall that the event attracts with advertising spots available, contact Big Bear Events for details of packages on 0845 652 5586.

Other highlights coming up at Airbourne 2011 include a top flight of flying displays including the Red Arrows, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, The Blades, Breitling Wingwalkers and new for 2011, displays from the Royal Navy Black Cats and Royal Navy Raiders Parachute Display Team.

The Marines Unarmed Combat team are set to make a welcome return to the arena joining the popular Essex Dog Display Team, the RAF College Band will provide music in the arena on Thursday and Friday, and the Red Arrows will make a special ground visit on Saturday afternoon.

The RAF Village will provide an interactive airshow element for budding pilots with the chance for visitors to find out about life in the RAF, with the Careers team on site for all four days. Visitors will also be able to watch the Mobile Catering Squadron cook up dishes they’d serve whilst in operation and the Bomb Disposal Squadron will demonstrate their life saving work.
