Are you an ‘Ard-man? Sign up now for new Eastbourne Triathlon!

6th July 2011

Eastbourne Extreme is getting ready to up the ante in the UK’s sunniest place next weekend with a new ‘Ard-man Triathlon joining the packed line up of intense sports over the two day event.

Brand new for 2011, the Eastbourne ‘Ard-man Triathlon takes place on Sunday 17 July with a challenging route taking on one of the hardest sprint distance triathlons in the calendar, including an open water sea swim followed by a hilly bike and run course – all to raise money for the Eastbourne Voluntary Lifeguards.

The challenge starts off at 7.30am sharp with a sea swim around a buoyed course near the Pier before competitors get on their bikes for an uphill climb along the seafront towards Beachy Head and East Dean. After cycling through the peaks and troughs of the Downs, competitors will enjoy a speedy descent back to the seafront to take on a final lap by foot taking in part of the South Downs Way.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Neil Stanley said “Eastbourne Extreme is gearing up for a jam-packed weekend of extreme sports and outdoor pursuits, guaranteed to get everyone warmed up, whether you’re taking part or watching the action as a spectator. The new triathlon promises a real challenge for athletes and takes in some of the spectacular countryside on Eastbourne’s doorstep as well as our excellent swimming water, and I hope to see lots of visitors cheering the competitors on! With lots more happening on the eastern seafront too, from skating to powerboating and from street surfing to free running, Eastbourne seafront will be awash with action next weekend!”

Eastbourne Extreme is a free two day event taking place from 16-17 July and this year, promises a UK exclusive, with Street Surfing bringing its 360° Rampage Tour to Eastbourne making its first appearance in this country.

A huge S Ramp will be erected on the seafront with the chance for visitors to watch the experts in action before being kitted out themselves for a taster skating session, described as a cross between snowboarding and surfing on the street.

There will be lots more to keep adrenaline-junkies entertained too, including Loco Skates’ Beach Jam, kite-surfing, kite-buggying, zorbing, Formula Future Offshore Powerboat Racing, windsurfing competitions, parkour, the Zero Gravity Freestyle Trials Team and more.

The Battle of the Bands finale will play out on the Extreme stage providing a non-stop music soundtrack across the weekend while the VW Bus Stop Tour will bring an authentic surf vibe to the south coast resort.
