Sign Up Now for UK Top 10 Marathon

Entrants begin the 2010 Beachy Head Marathon

31 January 2011

Entries have just opened for the 2011 Beachy Head Marathon as the 26-mile cross-country challenge is voted in at no.2 in Runner’s World’s top 10 UK Marathons.

Budding runners, walkers and joggers can sign up now to take part in the popular Beachy Head Marathon returning to the South Downs on 22 October 2011 and for the first time this year, organisers are introducing electronic chip timing.

One of the country’s biggest off-road marathons and attracting entrants from all over the globe, the Beachy Head Marathon has made the prestigious Runner’s World Top 10, beaten only by the Trionium Greensand event.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Neil Stanley said “The Runner’s World ranking is a fantastic accolade for the Beachy Head Marathon and testament to the hard work that goes into making the event such a huge success each year. The 1,750 places always fill up really quickly and I’d encourage anyone wanting to take on the challenge of a lifetime or to beat a previous finishing time to sign up now and guarantee their place in the starting line this October!”

The Beachy Head Marathon celebrated its 30th anniversary last year and is described by Runner’s World as ‘a truly awe-inspiring experience’. Taking in parts of the new South Downs National Park, the route offers stunning views of Sussex countryside over the highs and lows of the South Downs.

This year, entries are open earlier than ever before and are being taken exclusively via the Runner’s World website. Individuals as well as running clubs can book their place now at the Runners World website.

The 26-mile course, organised by Eastbourne Borough Council alongside the Eastbourne Hospitality Association (EHA), starts and finishes at St. Bede’s School at the foot of the South Downs and entrants will be cheered on around the course by volunteer marshals and stewards, as well as supporting spectators.

To apply for this year’s Beachy Head Marathon log on to the Beachy Head Marathon website or Runners World.
