26 January 2011 Visitors to Eastbourne Bandstand can book earlier than ever for their favourite performances with tickets on sale now for the 2011 concert calendar, including Seth Lakeman Live at the Bandstand on the August Bank Holiday weekend.
This year’s programme promises to be the best yet for the iconic seafront landmark with new concerts joining old favourites and by popular demand, Bandstand visitors can guarantee their seat in the audience five months before the summer season gets underway.
New for 2011, concert goers can look forward to a special performance from one of the country’s leading folk musicians, Seth Lakeman, on Sunday 28 August, as well as Glee inspired Kids Summertime Special evenings and new additions to the tribute nights including JLS and Michael Bublé.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Neil Stanley said “Wow, what a year we have coming up at Eastbourne Bandstand! 2010 was a record year for our beautiful seafront venue with over 32,000 visitors, but looking at the line-up for 2011, I am sure we can build on last year’s record success and welcome even more concert goers this summer.
“We are very excited to be able to welcome Seth Lakeman in August, an esteemed folk singer, and offer something different for audiences. Combined with the many other concerts, there really is a variety of entertainment on offer at the Bandstand to appeal to audiences of all ages and musical tastes!”
For the first time in 2011, Eastbourne Bandstand is offering visitors the chance to enjoy the popular Easter Day Concert for FREE and celebrate the start to the concert season with Eastbourne Silver Band taking to the stage for the traditional afternoon performance. To apply for a free ticket go to the Bandstand website.
Also coming up this year as the Bandstand continues to attract a new, younger audience, are the Kids Summertime Specials, which are being extended to include performances inspired by popular shows such as High School Musical, Hannah Montana and hit new US TV series Glee. Taking place on Tuesday evenings during the summer holidays, the shows offer the chance for families to get on their feet and dance along in the Eastbourne sunshine.
The Saturday rock ‘n’ roll nights are also being updated this year to continue the popularity of the Friday tributes through to Saturday too. Every Saturday evening from 23 July – 27 August, rock ‘n’ roll fans can enjoy a themed tribute to some of the genre’s best-loved artists such as Elvis, Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison.
And for something a little more traditional, Eastbourne Bandstand is welcoming back The Central Band of the Royal British Legion under the directorship of David Cole, who will perform on various dates throughout the season as well as during a special military week from 31 July – 5 August.
To book early for any of the Bandstand concerts in 2011 that also include the return of popular formats such as Big Band, 1812 Firework Nights, Rock n Roll Tribute Nights, Gilbert and Sullivan and Sunday Night on the Proms visit the Bandstand website. Tickets will be on sale via telephone from the Seafront Office from 1 February on 01323 410611.
