14 February 2011 Eastbourne’s Edwardian Mowbray is getting ready to celebrate its 65th anniversary as a guest house with a special Open House Day on Sunday 27 February.
Residents and visitors to Eastbourne are invited to attend the Open House Day and enjoy canapés and a glass of bubbly, view the recently refurbished rooms, relax with 5-minute sample treatments from the Mowbray’s therapist Anna Archer, and view the work of Eastbourne artist Julian Sutherland-Beatson whose work adorns the guest house walls.
Guests can also look forward to experiencing the popular ‘Murder at the Mowbray’ with members of the murder mystery cast lurking in the shadows to surprise visitors as they wander round!
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Neil Stanley said “The Mowbray’s Open House Day promises to be a really special experience for residents who have never been before as well as visitors looking to try out this wonderful Eastbourne Guest House. It’s a brilliant way to celebrate a special anniversary and showcase the best that the Mowbray has to offer.”
The Mowbray, an Edwardian building located in Lascelles Terrace, was a townhouse on the Duke of Devonshire’s estate until 1946 when he gave consent for the building to become a private hotel or guesthouse and has been run by Darren and Laura Weir since February 2008.
Formerly criminal barristers, Darren and Laura have invested all of their time and money into the business, picking up several accolades over the past three years including making the final 20 of the AA’s Friendliest B&B Awards in 2009 and winning Small Business of the Year Award and the Hospitality, Tourism & Leisure Award at the Eastbourne Business Awards.
As well as offering 4-star guest accommodation to visitors, The Mowbray are also offering a special deal for residents with The Mowbray Privilege Club. Members can enjoy discounts for friends and relatives who book at The Mowbray plus a special incentive – book friends or relatives at The Mowbray and join them at breakfast for free.
The Open House Day takes place from 2pm – 5pm on Sunday 27 February. For more information go to The Mowbray website or call 01323 720012.
