9 February 2011 The Mayor of Eastbourne has just launched her own official facebook page charting her weekly engagements to interact more with the local community and the social networking generation.
The Worshipful the Mayor of Eastbourne Cllr Carolyn Heaps is one of only a handful of Mayors in the UK to have a facebook page and Cllr Heaps is excited to start using the popular social networking site to tell residents what she is working on and share photos of her activities.
The Mayor, Cllr Heaps said “Wow, I am now officially on facebook and very excited to join the social networking generation! I absolutely relish my position as Mayor of Eastbourne and having the chance to meet so many people through the many engagements I attend. My facebook page will be a great way to make my position more interactive and show the fun things I get up to and I hope it will also mean I can engage with younger members of the community. Whether it’s attending 100th birthday celebrations or sleeping rough in Eastbourne, I love all of the opportunities that come along.”
Launched just this week, the Mayor of Eastbourne already has over 22 fans and her photos include a masked ball, meeting the Red Arrows, and taking part in Black History Month 2010. Over the coming weeks, the facebook page will also be used to advertise upcoming Mayor’s charity events.
The Mayor’s facebook page is the latest addition to Eastbourne Borough Council’s popular social networking profiles, joining the Council, VisitEastbourne, Towner Gallery, Theatres, the Seafront, and the Redoubt Fortress who already operate successful pages on facebook, twitter and flickr.
