Prizes Encourage Last Minute Entries for Eastbourne Half Marathon

23 February 2011

Organisers of the Eastbourne Hospitality Association Half Marathon are putting out a final call to individuals, teams, and businesses to enter this year’s event with less than a fortnight to go.

For the first time this year entrants will have the chance to win a top bill of prizes sponsored by local businesses; from a mini corporate day with Eastbourne Borough Football Club to a weekend in a Mercedes-Benz, and from a day out at Lloyd’s Lanes or Drusillas, to a business breakfast at Frankie and Benny’s.

With over 1,100 people already signed up to take part in this year’s Half Marathon on Sunday 6 March, the 2011 event promises to be a real spectacle for entrants and spectators.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Neil Stanley said “This year’s Eastbourne Hospitality Association Half Marathon really is shaping up to be action-packed. Not only do we have plenty of individuals taking on personal challenges, but we also have local businesses competing for fastest place, as well as juniors taking on a mini course of their own! With fantastic support from the Eastbourne business community, the host of prizes on offer add a great incentive for any last minute runners thinking of signing up.”

Prizes will be awarded for fastest mixed “business” team, fastest men and women’s “business” teams, under 17’s, under 11’s, top two fundraisers, best two fancy dress, and a lucky dip winner.

Mike Reid, from Reid+Dean who are again sponsoring the event, said “The town is now firmly behind the Half Marathon, not only in terms of the fantastic entry but the willingness of so many businesses and organisations to help boost the race. We owe a big thank you to all the sponsors and many volunteers who help marshal the race. It is also great to be able to support many local charities, schools and clubs with the proceeds from the sponsorship monies.”

The Half Marathon covers a 13-mile course through Princes Park, along the seafront and round Sovereign Harbour, and there is still chance for keen athletes, joggers and walkers to sign up and get ready to take part this spring.

Juniors can get involved too making the Eastbourne Hospitality Association Half Marathon a great family event. Children can take part in a mini marathon of their own with a 1km race for under 12’s and 2km race for under 17’s.
