Eastbourne Borough Council has agreed a transfer of land at St Anthony’s Court in Seaside to allow the development of supported housing for people with severe physical disabilities.
Offering 24 hour on-site support, the project will provide five ground floor homes for residents with severe physical disabilities. There will also be twelve more homes for people with support needs.
Part of the land being transferred is currently being used as a car park for people using and visiting New Derby House. While the construction work is being carried out the contractors will need access to the St Anthony’s site through the car park. However, when the project is finished the original car parking spaces will again be open for residents of New Derby House alongside a revamped garden area.
Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Housing and Community Services, Councillor Margaret Bannister, said:
“The transfer of the land will help our partners develop much needed new homes for people with special housing needs. We are compensating for the loss of the car park during the construction by relocating the car park to the garden area. The garden will be fully reinstated at the end of the building phase.”
The project partners include the Council, East Sussex County Council and Saxon Weald Housing Association, supported by funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.
