Digital Christmas Carnival Comes to Town!

December 5, 2011

Eastbourne’s award-winning Towner Contemporary Art Museum is getting ready for a bumper weekend of festivities with its first ever Christmas Carnival!

This Friday and Saturday visitors will have the chance to see Towner’s exhibition halls transformed with popular culture, new technology and the thrill of the fairground coming together for a unique carnival event.

Tickets are on sale now for the inaugural Christmas Carnival taking place this Friday night from 9pm – 1am in association with Melting Vinyl and festival circuit favourite Boredbrands Digital Funfair. The unique club evening promises themed live acts and DJ sets including Transformer and Teen Creeps and carnival goers are invited to join the optional dress code for the night, ‘past, present and yet to come’ – the particularly adventurous can try all three at once!

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Cllr Neil Stanley said “What a fantastic weekend we have coming up at Towner offering festivities with a contemporary twist! Friday night’s Carnival promises a night out with a difference, while families will have the chance to experience all the fun of the fair on Saturday afternoon! When the lights go down on Saturday night, it will be a chance for young people to experience the carnival atmosphere with the first event created by the Generate crew. Whatever your plan this weekend, a visit to Towner’s first Christmas Carnival is a must!”

Visitors to Towner will be able to enjoy the funfair for free from 2pm – 5pm on Saturday afternoon, while Sunday presents Christmas Creations at Towner, a chance for families to drop-in and make Christmas cards with a difference from 11am – 3pm. Artist Alicja Rogalska will be helping visitors to create unique designs and as well as taking them home, visitors can also convert their designs into a digital card to email family and friends.

Saturday night sees D GENERATE at Towner, a free event for young people aged 14 – 19 years old, from 8pm – 11pm. The carnival themed evening is the first event to be created by Towner’s new Generate crew, a group set up to encourage young people to get the most out of Towner.

Young party goers will be able to have a go at a virtual coconut shy, a semi-automatic DJ-ing table, the Beat Jigsaw and Smack Bottoms – the world’s only mannequin based guitar hero game, while some of Eastbourne’s most promising young bands provide the soundtrack for the evening. Performances will come from Trade Secret, On the Spot and The Rahmanis, all surrounded by animated graffiti and artwork created by the Generate crew.
