Eastbourne Borough Council has appealed to residents to help
recycle record numbers of Christmas trees this festive season.
Last year the council recycled 350 trees and is hoping to
better that figure in the coming weeks.
There will be 17 temporary tree recycling points across the
town, open from December 28 to Jan 13. Trees are shredded and the chippings are
used in local parks and gardens, adding to the total green waste recycled from Eastbourne
The tree recycling sites will be located at:
·
Hampden
Park, Princes
Park, Gildredge
Park and Archery Park
·
Car parks at Atlantic Drive, Fishermans Green,
Treasure Island, Holly Place, Sevenoaks Road and College Road
·
Stores car parks at Asda, Tesco (Lottbridge
Drove), Homebase, B&Q, Sainsbury’s (Cross Levels Way)
·
Langney Shopping Centre
·
Courtlands Road (SITA Forecourt opposite ESK)
Posters will be displayed in participating stores to remind
customers to recycle their trees and not simply dispose of them in other ways.
Small Christmas trees can be placed in green garden bins however all
decorations must be removed.
Cllr Steve Wallis, portfolio holder for the environment,
said: “Last year our Christmas tree recycling sites proved a great success and
this year we hope to smash our 2010 collection record of 350.
“Eastbourne residents have
many ways of recycling this Christmas, whether it is trees, or items placed in
the garden green bins and recycling boxes. I would urge as many people as
possible to make it a green Christmas to remember.”
