A memorial service to commemorate the life of Maurice Skilton MBE will take place at St Mary’s Church, Old Town on Tuesday 6 September at 3.00pm.
Maurice, who was a former Eastbourne Borough Councillor, County Councillor, Leader of the Borough Council, Chairman of the County Council, Mayor of Eastbourne and Honorary Freeman, passed away on 17th May 2011.
In 2008 he was honoured with the Freedom of the Borough of Eastbourne at a special ceremony at the Town Hall. The Honour was awarded to recognise the outstanding contribution he had made in Eastbourne for more than 45 years, serving as a councillor for the Old Town on both Eastbourne Borough Council and East Sussex County Council.
The service will be attended by many civic dignitaries from past and present and all members of the public are most welcome to attend.
