“Keep Airbourne in Eastbourne and support the RNLI” is the message from Eastbourne Hospitality Association as get ready to carry out the retiring collection at this year’s Eastbourne International Airshow next week.
For the third year in 2011 the Eastbourne Hospitality Association (EHA) are organising a retiring collection of visitor donations at the town’s major summer event and this year, the EHA have nominated the RNLI as their chosen charity.
The retiring collection will take place over all four days of Airbourne, taking place from 11-14 August, and are urging visitors to look out for the bucket collectors wearing red t-shirts along the seafront between the Pier and the Western Lawns and help raise funds towards the future of the event and towards the RNLI.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Cllr Neil Stanley said “We are extremely grateful to the Eastbourne Hospitality Association for co-ordinating the retiring collection at Airbourne with many of their members giving up their time over the four day event. For the past two years we have received a great response from visitors all keen to raise money towards securing the future of Airbourne and I hope that this year will be just as successful and help us keep this world famous event for the town.”
The EHA, formed of local accommodation providers, donated funds from the retiring collection to St Wilfrid’s Hospice in 2010 and to the Sussex Air Ambulance in 2009, and are keen to secure enough donations in 2011 to ensure that Airbourne is on a secure financial footing ready for its 20th anniversary next year. 70% of the funds raised will contribute towards the costs of the flying and arena displays at Airbourne and 30% will be donated to the RNLI.
Airbourne fans can start contributing towards this year’s collection now by donating online via E-shop at the visit Eastbourne web site. For more information on Airbourne, including the packed line up of flying coming up from 11-14 August 2011, visit the web site or telephone 0871 663 0031.
