August 19th, 2011. The UK’s sunniest place is getting ready for a bumper Bank Holiday weekend at the end of August with a UK exclusive from one of the country’s leading folk singers, a funfair, Medieval Festival and RNLI Regatta!
Eastbourne Bandstand will play stage to the award-winning Seth Lakeman and his superbly talented band on Sunday 28 August for a special one off gig. Widely regarded as the UK’s foremost folk singer songwriter, Seth Lakeman will be performing tracks from his latest studio album Hearts & Minds as well as hits from 2008’s Top 10 critically acclaimed album Poor Man’s Heaven.
Sovereign Harbour Marina will be taken over by the seventh Eastbourne RNLI Regatta on the Bank Holiday weekend with visitors invited to watch and enjoy yacht racing, powerboat racing, a farmer’s market, water activities, and more!
And over in Herstmonceux, just outside Eastbourne, the Medieval Festival returns from 27 – 29 August bringing history to life at Herstmonceux Castle Visitors can look forward to daily battles twice a day, breathtaking falconry, crossbow competitions, puppeteers, hog roast, and the chance to have a go at archery.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure, Cllr Neil Stanley said “We have a fantastic couple of weeks coming up in Eastbourne to mark the end of the school holidays and August Bank Holiday weekend. Not only do we have a very special concert by Seth Lakeman to look forward to but we also have dozens of family events and activities taking place, perfect for a last minute break on the south coast!”
Visitors to Eastbourne over the next couple of weeks can also make the most of the Funfair at Princes Park, on from 19 – 31 August, with discounted rides on Wednesday and Thursdays from just £1 a ride.
The Bank Holiday weekend will also offer the chance for culture vultures to get behind the scenes of Eastbourne’s award-winning art museum Towner with Collection Store Tours on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 August from 3-4pm. Towner has a world renowned collection of around 4,000 historic, modern and contemporary works and the tours are a chance for visitors to learn about how an art collection is stored and conserved.
Visitors staying on the seafront will be in prime position to make the most of the Italia in Piazza Continental Market on Sunday 28 August and enjoy a taste of Italy with stalls lining the promenade.
