Royal Wedding Picnic in the Park in Eastbourne

Picnic in the Park Royal Wedding

4 April 2011

Visitors are invited to escape the hustle and bustle of London and watch the Royal Wedding on a 25 square metre big screen in the UK’s sunniest place with a special Picnic in the Park event in Eastbourne.

Already hosting a free motoring spectacular from 30 April – 1 May, Eastbourne is joining the Royal Wedding celebrations on Friday 29 April and offering visitors and residents the chance to enjoy a picnic in Princes Park as they watch Kate and Wills tie the knot.

Princes Park, next to Eastbourne seafront, will be dressed with red, white and blue flags and bunting in the true spirit of the occasion and picnickers will be able to watch the couple’s nuptials on a giant screen followed by live music featuring classic rock and soul from ER Riley’s Rockin Soul and the Mojo Makers, with dancing through to the early evening.

An Eastbourne Borough Council spokesperson said “We are very excited to join the millions of people up and down the country who will be celebrating the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. With street parties taking place around the town, our event in Princes Park will offer the chance for the whole community to come together to mark the occasion and I’m sure it will be a popular option for visitors looking to escape the capital. With many of our hotels and guesthouses offering discounted rates for the weekend, Eastbourne makes a top choice for the Bank Holiday weekend.”

Visitors are encouraged to come dressed in their best red, white and blue clothes and royal regalia and there will be prizes awarded to best dressed man, best dressed woman, best dressed child, and best dressed family. There will be fun and games with giant musical chairs and tig o war, and huge inflatables and slides to keep the little ones entertained plus face painting on offer. A licensed bar and catering outlets will also be available on site.

With Magnificent Motors also taking place in Princes Park on the Saturday and Sunday, Eastbourne is kicking off its major events season with a packed Bank Holiday weekend. And with both the Royal Wedding celebrations and Magnificent Motors free to attend, Eastbourne is marking itself out as the ideal staycation destination.

Several of Eastbourne’s hotels and guesthouses are offering special offer rates for the Bank Holiday weekend, keen to entice visitors looking to avoid London as well as those looking to visit the country’s no.1 sunniest place. Hotel deals can be booked online from the VisitEastbourne website and include 15% off stays at The New Wilmington Hotel, 4 nights for the price of 3 at Southcroft Guest House, and 3 nights for the price of 2 at The Cherry Tree Guest House.
